Aims of the Charity
Maharishi Vedic Institute is registered in South Africa as a non-profit organisation number 025-663-NPO. The aim of the charity is to advance the education of the public by offering courses and services of the highest quality to develop the full mental and creative potential of the individual, including Transcendental Meditation and its Advanced Techniques. The main courses offered are in Transcendental Meditation, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and related Advanced Techniques and knowledge programmes. Maharishi Vedic Institute is the only official organisation to offer these courses in South Africa. Maharishi Vedic Institute publicises its services widely to inform members of the public about the benefits, and maintains about seven Transcendental Meditation Centres run by qualified Teachers of Transcendental Meditation.
Working with other agencies
Regular consultations with education, health-care, business and other professionals are organised to plan the implementation of the Charity's services in different areas of society e.g. to promote Consciousness-Based Education - a scientifically validated programme to eliminate stress and promote academic excellence amongst students and teachers - widely throughout South Africa in schools.
Fund raising, through appeals for donors, is undertaken by the Charity to enable it to provide the necessary funds to support the implementation of Maharishi's programmes in areas of special need. It will also consider applications for scholarships for those on low incomes.
Maharishi Vedic Institute encourages and supports independent academic institutions to carry out scientific research into the benefits of Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques. More than 600 scientific studies, conducted at 250 independent universities and institutions in 33 countries and published in over 100 of the world's leading scientific journals, have already documented the wide-ranging benefits for every aspect of life: mind, body, behaviour, and society.
